The Rolex GMT-Master II, launched in 1955, was initially developed as a navigation instrument for professionals crisscrossing the globe and to show the time in two different time zones simultaneously. Heir apparent to the original GMT-Master, the GMT-Master II was launched in 1982 whenRolex decided to overhaul the model significantlywith a new movement that made it easy to use.
It’s a combination of robustness, splendid functionality,and great aestheticsthat has attracted an enormous number of world travelers.In addition to an all-new movement, the GMT Master II received a couple of key updates. It came equipped with an independent quickset hour hand and a 24-hour GMT hand. Their extra-thick case and large crown guards give the watch the nickname “Fat lady.”Also, very interestingly, Rolex made a version that had a GMT bezel in red and black, called “Coke,” Later the first GMT-Master from 1955 bore the red-and-blue scale for the 24-hour display which was nicknamed “Pepsi.” The new Pepsi GMT-Master II represents the reincarnation of the classic in its original form.
